| About Wilson Goodrich |
Wilson began photographing the natural landscape while he was a student at a small Liberal Arts
college in Tennessee where he received a degree in History and Philosophy. His love of color
and composition led him to photograph more than just nature. He soon began to make images of
friends and family and after seeing an unbelievable photograph of the Maroon Bells he soon
loaded up his wife and son and moved to Colorado.
That led him on another search for images of the West. That search led him into backpacking,
cross-country skiing, mountaineering, climbing, mountain biking and boating so he could explore
the natural landscape and capture it’s moods and beauty. That search also led him to develop
many cherished friendships in the outdoor community for which he is very thankful.
He soon started working for the Forest Service and spent five years working for the government
and shooting the mountains around Aspen, Colorado. While working and photographing he
began to have an interest in how cameras worked. That led him into a Technical school for
repairing cameras. So he began repairing cameras for the public and professional photographers
in the area. So still photographing as much as possible he started a business that included
repairing cameras and selling his photographs in a gallery situation. As the years went by he
realized that cameras were becoming mostly automated electronic throw-always so he began to
frame his images himself. That grew into another business. The camera repair ended and the
gallery-frame shop went into full swing. All this time he continued to read and educate himself in
Native American spirituality, the natural world around him and the history of the West.
As people saw more of his work, they began asking him to photograph many different subjects.
And so it went: industrial sites, weddings, groups, marketing situations for the ski areas, rodeos,
western dude ranches, real estate, ski products etc. He started sending stock photos to Gartman
Agency in Chicago and then to Index Stock in New York who now represents him. He now lives
in Grand Junction, Co., where he continues his quest for adventure, friends and to make images of
the moods, magic and beauty of our fascinating planet. |
